Lejweleputswa is one the five districts of the Free State province in central South Africa. Lejweleputswa is a Sesotho word meaning "grey rock," and today most of the people who live here speak Sotho. The area is made up of grasslands that host wildlife like springbok and wildebeest as well as agricultural lands. Outstanding views of the ecosystem can be experienced by exploring the Bell's Pass Hiking Trails, located near Winburg. This long but gentle hike is appropriate for all ages.
Mining is also an important industry in Lejweleputswa, and the Welkom Museum displays artifacts and tells the complete history of gold and uranium mining in the area. Welkom locals enjoy dining at one of several excellent restaurants. The Mediterranean Wine and Grill is perfect for an evening meal, while Indiana Spur is a favourite fast food place for a quick bite.
Other lovely spots are the nature reserves in Botha, a town that also attracts sportsmen looking for good hunting and fishing opportunities. Also on the Vaal River lies Christiana, once the site of intense diamond speculation. Today visitors enjoy the mineral spring and nearby spa.
