Mokopane, also known as Potgietersrus, is a town of about 30,000 residents in the Limpopo province of South Africa.
Mokopane got its name from King Mgombane Kekana, who ruled the area until he was overthrown by the Voortrekkers. This name replaced the old Dutch name Potgietersrus, which honored one of the original Voortrekkers. The area is largely agricultural, producing wheat, peanuts and cotton. The region is also home to the Zebediela Citrus Estate, one of the largest producers of citrus in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Mokopane Biodiversity Centre is home to many animals and is a popular place for families to spend an afternoon picnicking and enjoying the great outdoors. Mokopane is also the home of one of the world's most exciting golf courses: Extreme 19th. This breathtaking course requires a helicopter ride to the top of a mountain, truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience for both avid golfers and adventure seekers of all types. Afterwards, The Oaks is a great place to enjoy a relaxing meal.
