Scottburgh is a resort town situated on the mouth of the Mpambanyoni River just south of Durban on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.
It was named after Sir John Scott, the Lieutenant-Governor of Natal in 1860 and was the first town established south of Durban. The town offered a promising harbor and was a good location for sugar farms and sugar mills.
Today, Scottburgh is a thriving coastal town attracting visitors year round thanks to its sub-tropical climate and warm Indian Ocean.
Not only is it is a surfer’s paradise with surfers and body boarders flocking to the area for its incredible breaks, but it also offers a sheltered swimming beach called Scott Bay boasting sandy beaches, a tidal pool, a supertube and miniature railway, making it an ideal family holiday destination.
Scottburgh also offers impressive deep sea diving and is known for its many dive sites and bountiful marine life, varying from small reef fish to Zambezi sharks, dolphins and game fish. Angling is also excellent thanks to the warm Agulhas current which ensures an abundance of fish species off the coast.
Golfers can enjoy the 18-hole Scottburgh golf course with its undulating fairways and exceptional view of the Indian Ocean. The Robertson Nature Reserve and Croc World are also worth a visit.
